WhatsApp Tests Cover Photo Feature for Personal Accounts on Android
Until now, the cover photo feature was limited to WhatsApp Business accounts and was not available for personal accounts. The cover photo option has been spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp for Android, allowing personal account users to customize their profiles similarly to business accounts. The cover photo appears as a wide horizontal banner at the top of the profile page and complements the profile picture without replacing it. It also appears at the top of the app settings for users to see whenever they open that section. If a user does not select a cover photo, the app displays a default image until a custom one is chosen. To set a cover photo, users can tap the "Edit" button on their profile page and choose how to add the photo: by taking a new picture, selecting one from the gallery, or using Meta AI to generate an image. The app automatically crops the image to fit the horizontal format and provides multiple privacy options to control who can see the cover photo, including "Everyone," "My contacts," "My contacts except...," and "Nobody." The default setting allows everyone to view the cover photo unless privacy settings are changed. The cover photo appears above the profile picture, name, and phone number, and it does not show in the chat info section if privacy settings restrict it. No official release date has been announced yet for this feature to be available to regular Android users.
