War Bill Reaches Paris: France Incurs €6 Billion in Losses Amid Sharp Rise in Borrowing Costs
French Economy Minister Roland Lescure revealed today, Tuesday, that the war on Iran and its repercussions on energy markets have cost the French budget between 4 and 6 billion euros. Lescure explained that the sharp rise in bond yields and government borrowing costs alone added 3.6 billion euros in financial burdens, noting that Paris is currently considering measures to support households and freeze some expenditures to counter the price shock amidst the fiscal deficit facing the Eurozone in 2026.
