US Military Tests Advanced Drone Tech In Middle East

The US Central Command "CENTCOM" announced the introduction of new drone and communications capabilities for US forces operating in the Middle East through Task Force 99, which is testing new technologies and concepts to enhance combat effectiveness on the battlefield. The command stated in a post on the "X" platform today, Wednesday, that Task Force 99 operates as a "field-deployed laboratory" to test innovative solutions that help forces develop operational capabilities, as part of the US military's efforts to accelerate the deployment of modern technologies in complex military environments. Task Force 99 falls under US Air Forces Central, which is the unit responsible for developing and testing drone and communications technologies within the command's area of operations. The force was established in 2022 to accelerate innovation in the airspace, develop solutions to help detect and handle threats, and test autonomous operation technologies and artificial intelligence in field environments. US Air Forces Central had previously clarified that the force tests drone capabilities and communication means in contested and unfamiliar environments, alongside cooperating with military partners, research institutions, and specialized companies to develop new technologies, according to the official website of US Central Command. On the other hand, the Central Command is responsible for managing US military operations in a region that includes the Middle East, parts of Central Asia, and South Asia, operating through specialized components representing the branches of the US Armed Forces, including ground, naval, air, marine, special operations, and space forces. Its tasks also include managing military operations, coordinating with partner forces, responding to crises, supporting maritime security navigation, alongside developing military and technological capabilities within its scope of responsibility.
