Taylor Swift Breaks New Record at MTV Video Music Awards History

Global superstar Taylor Swift has shattered the record for most awards in MTV Video Music Awards history for 2026, becoming the most decorated artist ever with 31 accolades. Swift accepted the inaugural "Artist Director Honors" award on Sunday evening, which elevated her total to 31 awards. This achievement allowed her to surpass Beyoncé, who previously shared the record with her at 30 awards each. The new honorary award recognizes artists whose behind-the-camera work expanded music video possibilities and advanced visual storytelling. In her acceptance speech, Swift noted she began creating and participating in music videos two decades ago, revealing involvement in nearly 60 videos, writing and directing 18. Addressing her audience, she stated: "You, the audience... are the ones who make this experience so much fun." During the ceremony, Swift also premiered the music video for her new single "Patient Zero," which she directed. The video stars Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson. This track marks her first solo release since her marriage to Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs NFL player, at Madison Square Garden last July. The two-hour ceremony was broadcast live from Los Angeles' Peacock Theater on CBS network, simultaneously airing on MTV.
