Police Reveal Cause of Hayden Panettiere's Death After Two-Month Investigation
The South Carolina police have closed the investigation into the death of American actress Hayden Panettiere, who passed away on August 16 at the age of 36 inside a rented apartment in Greenville. The medical examiner's office confirmed that the death was accidental, caused by the toxic effects of multiple substances, with no physical injuries contributing to the death. The substances identified in the autopsy report included fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. The medical examiner classified the death as accidental, and the case was administratively closed following the local investigation. Fentanyl is a potent opioid, approximately 50 times stronger than heroin, with small amounts capable of causing fatal overdose. 4-ANPP is a chemical precursor used in illicit fentanyl production. Alprazolam (commercially known as Xanax) treats anxiety and panic disorders, methocarbamol is prescribed as a muscle relaxant, and quetiapine (Seroquel) is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression. Reports indicated that Panettiere was found unconscious on a couch, with the brother of her former boyfriend present at the scene. One of them attempted to save her by administering two doses of Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses, before calling emergency services and starting CPR. Upon paramedics' arrival, resuscitation efforts continued but Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 PM. Authorities also found suspected drugs, prescription medications, and drug paraphernalia inside the apartment. Unverified claims about individuals connected to the actress circulated on social media but were not included in the official investigation findings. Earlier reports revealed that Panettiere had undergone rehabilitation treatment for addiction, with her father stating her struggles began in her early twenties and worsened after postpartum depression. She had publicly shared her experiences with addiction, postpartum depression, and abuse in her memoir released in May. Her relationship with her former boyfriend was marked by turmoil, including domestic violence allegations and legal consequences. A private memorial was held in Malibu with family, friends, and colleagues attending. Panettiere was known for her roles in various TV series and films, leaving behind her daughter Kaya, who resides primarily with her father in Europe following her parents' separation.
