MPs Warn of Consequences from Delay in 2027 Budget Submission Urging Swift Action Before Legislative Session Ends

Several MPs have warned about the repercussions of the delayed submission of the federal general budget law for 2027 to the parliament, urging the government to expedite its delivery before the end of the second legislative session on November 1. MP Ahmed Majid Al-Sharmani explained that the budget draft was returned to the Ministry of Finance to include financial allocations for newly established ministries, noting that completing these requirements is essential before referring the project to the council. MP Ali Anhir Al-Saray, a member of the Security and Defense Committee, called for the budget draft to be sent within the specified deadline, enabling the council to discuss and vote on it, with the possibility of extending the legislative session by one month if the draft arrives late. Al-Saray emphasized the importance of including job grades for contract youth in the Ministries of Interior and Defense, as well as for senior graduates, highlighting the positive impact on financial and economic stability and the provision of necessary allocations to implement service and development projects and meet citizens' needs. MP Basim Khudair Al-Gharabi warned of the approaching end of the legislative session without the budget draft reaching the council, explaining that the constitution allows extending the session by no more than thirty days according to Article 58, while Article 57 stipulates the continuation of the session in which the budget is presented until its approval. Al-Gharabi urged the government to send the complete draft before November 1, 2026, cautioning that further delays could result in entering 2027 without a budget, negatively affecting project implementation, services, and financial obligations, especially with the establishment of new ministries and positions requiring clear financial allocations. Similarly, MP Abdul Hamza Munim Al-Khafaji confirmed that the budget draft was returned to the Ministry of Finance to add allocations for the newly created ministries, noting that completing these procedures is among the key matters before submitting the draft to the parliament.
