Lebanese Army Fire Kills Woman and Injures Three Syrians in Arsal
The Lebanese army opened fire on a smuggling vehicle in the mountainous area of Arsal near the Syrian border, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to three other Syrians. The army command stated in a report that the incident occurred on November 4, 2026, during security measures to prevent smuggling and control the borders in the Arsal region. The vehicle, equipped with tinted glass and lacking license plates, crossed a military checkpoint heading from Syrian territory into Lebanon through illegal crossings. The report added that the driver attempted to run over the checkpoint personnel, prompting the forces to fire warning shots to stop the vehicle, which then halted before the driver fled to an unknown location. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying 12 Syrian nationals. A woman was shot, and three others were injured due to broken glass; they were transported to a hospital for treatment, but the woman later died. The report noted that investigations have commenced under judicial supervision to clarify the circumstances of the incident, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver.
