Egyptian Authority Successfully Rescues Oil Tanker Off Alamein Coast
The Suez Canal Authority of Egypt announced on Thursday the successful rescue and towing operation of the oil tanker "M/T ALYSSUM" after its main engines suffered a sudden failure off the coast of Alamein city in northern Egypt. The authority confirmed the safe arrival of the tanker to the Port Said anchorage area to carry out necessary maintenance and repairs, noting that the operation was executed by the rescue tug "Mohamed Basheer" immediately after receiving a rapid response request from the maritime agent "Sphinx". The authority explained that the towing operation is considered a specialized task reflecting the authority's competence and expertise in marine rescue, covering a towing distance of 180 nautical miles completed successfully in record time. It was noted that the total cargo of the tanker "ALYSSUM" is 23,000 tons, with a length of 182.5 meters, a width of 43.5 meters, and a draft of 11.2 feet. The authority emphasized the readiness of the Suez Canal fleet to provide rescue services and handle emergencies inside and outside the navigation channel, including maintenance, pollution control, and marine ambulance services, relying on its human resources and advanced national units such as the marine crane "CC" with a lifting capacity of up to 2200 tons.
