Launch of First Rail Transit Shipment from Iraq to Afghanistan via Iranian Territory
The first joint railway transit shipment has commenced its journey from Iraq to Afghanistan, passing through Iran's Kermanshah station. This significant step aims to bolster the role of railways in regional transit and advance international transport corridors. Ahmad Turki, Director General of Railways for the Arak and Kermanshah regions, announced the operation of this initial shipment. He highlighted that this initiative is designed to develop global transportation routes and strengthen the contribution of rail networks to regional transit. Turki clarified that after entering Iranian territory via its western crossings and completing necessary logistical procedures at Kermanshah cargo station, the shipment was integrated into the Iranian railway network. It will now continue its passage across national rail lines towards the eastern borders, ultimately reaching its destination in Afghanistan. He described this event as a pivotal moment for activating untapped capabilities in the country's western axis and fostering international railway transit. Furthermore, Turki stated that the successful execution of this international transport operation is the culmination of continuous follow-ups, specialized planning, and extensive coordination undertaken by Kermanshah Railways with cargo owners, transport companies, customs departments, and other relevant entities. This move aligns with the broader policies of Iran Railways, which seek to attract transit shipments and develop combined transport, thereby paving the way for an increase in commercial exchanges via the nation's rail routes.
