Ministry of Electricity: Iraq Imports 600 MW from Turkey, 50 from Jordan, and 600 from Regional Grid

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity announced on Monday that Iraq currently imports electrical power, including 600 megawatts via connection with Turkey, 50 megawatts through the Jordanian line, in addition to 600 megawatts supplied through regional connection methods. He also noted that the Kurdistan Region contributes 1400 megawatts from its investment stations to the national grid. The spokesperson, Ahmed Turki Jiad, explained to the official agency that work on the electricity interconnection project with Kuwait has been halted by the Kuwaiti side due to current regional circumstances, despite 96 percent of the project's procedures being completed. He expressed hope for the resumption of work as soon as the regional crisis concludes. In a related context, Jiad revealed significant progress in ongoing discussions regarding the electricity interconnection with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He added that the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Waheeb, discussed several priorities with the World Bank last week, including the regional interconnection project with Saudi Arabia. This file is expected to top the agenda of an anticipated visit by Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaydi to Riyadh.
