Kurdistan Regional Government Demands Fixing Its Share in the Federal Budget
The Kurdistan Regional Government stressed on Wednesday the necessity of fixing the region share in the 2027 budget at 14.14%, while calling for isolating the salary file from any political disputes. The Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Region held its regular session to discuss the results of the region delegation talks with Baghdad regarding securing financial rights within the draft budget law for 2027, where the delegation presented a detailed report on its meetings with the federal Ministry of Finance, and the council expressed observations and reservations regarding some texts and proposals. The council affirmed that the actual percentage of the region population based on the 2024 census is 14.14%, emphasizing the importance of adopting it as a main standard to determine the share in the federal general budget. It also called for respecting constitutional and financial rights, securing the payment of salaries and dues for employees, Peshmerga forces, retirees, families of martyrs, political prisoners, and social protection beneficiaries, along with providing job titles and financial allocations using the same standards applied in the rest of the country. The council pointed out the importance of keeping these dues away from political disagreements and avoiding restricting them with unlawful conditions, based on the constitution, applicable laws, and binding judicial decisions, expressing full support for the negotiating delegation to reach a fair constitutional agreement that guarantees the rights of the region and its citizens and sets radical, sustainable, and fair solutions to financial problems.
