Islamabad meetings Pakistani Interior Minister Tehran pushed negotiations important direction

CBS News reported, quoting a senior Pakistani official in Islamabad on Friday, that the meetings of Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have enabled the negotiations to progress "in an important direction."

The source said, "The joining of the Pakistani Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, came for this reason."

Naqvi had held meetings this week in Tehran with senior leaders, and the Pakistani Army Chief, who was a key mediator between Iran and the United States, headed to Tehran today, security sources told CBS News.

Military officials said that "Munir is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials to discuss key regional and international issues, including the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States that Pakistan helped mediate."

Pakistan intensified its efforts this week to reach a diplomatic solution to the war launched jointly by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, as the Trump administration currently awaits a response from Tehran to its latest proposals regarding a peace agreement.
