Iraqi Ports Welcome First Chinese Ship Following Resumption of Hormuz Strait Navigation
The General Company for Ports of Iraq on Monday welcomed the cargo ship "MV KSL XINYANG," arriving directly from China via the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the first vessel to reach Umm Qasr North Port since the resumption of maritime navigation through the vital strait. Farhan al-Fartousi, Director-General of the company, affirmed that the ship's arrival aligns with directives from Transport Minister Wahab al-Hasani to ensure continuous operations across all company ports. Al-Fartousi explained that this event delivers a message of reassurance regarding stable maritime navigation and the sustained flow of goods to Iraqi ports, despite recent regional challenges. He further stated that receiving the first Chinese ship post-Hormuz Strait navigation resumption underscores the readiness of Iraqi ports to adapt to operational changes. It also reflects the growing trust of international companies and shipping lines in the ports' capacities and the efficiency of their logistics and maritime services. The "MV KSL XINYANG" carries a diverse cargo, including materials and equipment for the oil sector, alongside other commercial goods. Its total weight is 29,720 tons, enhancing commercial activity and import operations via Iraqi ports.
