Ultra-High Voltage Stations Nearing Completion to Enhance Karkh and Middle Euphrates Power Supply

The Ministry of Electricity announced the nearing completion of ultra-high voltage transformer station projects, which will contribute to improving and increasing electricity supply hours for Baghdad's Karkh area and the five Middle Euphrates governorates. Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Turki Jiad stated that the Ministry has intensified its technical and engineering efforts to complete these vital projects, achieving advanced progress. Full commissioning into service is expected in the coming period. Jiad clarified that these stations, once operational, will bolster the national grid with additional capacities, significantly improving the electricity situation based on the needs of each Karkh area, alongside the Middle Euphrates governorates: Babylon, Najaf, Karbala, Diwaniya, and Muthanna, to meet their full energy requirements. He noted that ultra-high voltage transformer stations reduce substantial energy loss during long-distance transmission, serving as a critical link in the system to support grid stability and balanced load distribution. Jiad affirmed the Ministry's work to enhance national grid efficiency and resolve bottlenecks by strengthening cable operations and redistributing loads under a distribution network development plan. New feeders are being established, and congested lines, feeders, and stations are being addressed to alleviate loads and improve the national grid's performance. Ultra-high voltage transformer stations are designed to step down or step up very high voltage, enabling efficient long-distance power transmission between generation stations and main distribution networks.
