Iraqi Al-Asas Coalition Backs Recent Government Economic Measures
The Iraqi Al-Asas Coalition announced on Friday its full support for the executive measures taken by the executive authority to prevent the deterioration of financial stability in the country. The coalition explained in an official document issued by it that this support is based on adopting actual economic solutions aimed at avoiding financial collapse, considering it a necessary emergency measure to control speculation activities and illegal currency trading networks. The statement pointed out that the exchange rate adjustment decision did not represent a political luxury or an easy choice for the government, indicating that the realistic reading of the current scene confirms it is the least harmful option for citizens compared to other alternatives that would have caused severe damage to all societal segments, starting from employees, retirees, and social welfare beneficiaries, down to the dues of farmers, contractors, and other groups. The statement clarified that the surrounding economic conditions impose on all national parties the necessity of supporting the current government policies in order to overcome the current crisis resulting from multiple reasons, most notably the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the halt of crude oil exports. The coalition called on all parties to fully cooperate with the Prime Minister to enhance his serious tracks and steps aimed at overcoming the crisis, foremost of which is the establishment of the Generations Fund to finance various projects, prosecuting currency speculators and corrupt individuals to recover looted funds, as well as ensuring the continued disbursement of salaries and basic operational expenses of the state, securing the delivery of food ration items to those who deserve them, with the necessity of activating market monitoring to mitigate the repercussions of the exchange rate change on citizens.
