Baghdad Welcomes Iran-US Agreement, Reaffirms Firm Stance Against War and Support for Diplomacy

Baghdad welcomed, today Monday, the memorandum of understanding concluded between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, affirming full support for efforts to enhance dialogue and prioritize diplomatic solutions to regional crises and disputes. Baghdad extended congratulations to both governments and peoples on this occasion, hoping this step contributes to solidifying regional security and stability, opening new horizons for understanding and cooperation that serve the region's interests. Iraq reiterated that its principled and firm stance is based on rejecting war and adopting dialogue and peaceful means as the sole path to resolve disputes. In this context, Baghdad closely followed the course of negotiations that led to this memorandum, congratulating the governments of Pakistan and Qatar for their mediation and support, which facilitated the cessation of military operations. Baghdad noted Iraq’s extensive suffering from the repercussions of conflicts and wars in the region, reinforcing its firm conviction regarding the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to prevent escalation and avoid new confrontations. It expressed hope that this development would permanently end the state of war, affirming its continued efforts to restore and strengthen relations with friendly and brotherly nations affected by the repercussions of the recent crisis. The region, it stated, urgently needs collective action based on principles of collective security and joint cooperation to ensure stability and achieve aspirations for development and prosperity. Baghdad affirmed its continued pivotal role in bridging viewpoints among the region's countries, consistent with its balanced foreign policy and constant endeavor to foster dialogue and regional understanding. Baghdad also expressed satisfaction with the announcement of the imminent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to normal navigation, underscoring its paramount importance for ensuring the smooth flow of oil and gas to global markets and contributing to international energy market stability.
