Baghdad Affirms Commitment to Washington on Arms Control

Baghdad informed Washington of its firm commitment to restricting weapons and placing them under government authority, asserting state sovereignty. This assurance was conveyed during Saturday's communications, affirming Iraq's resolve to pursue this policy. Information further indicated that concerns about the dangers of armed factions in the country are exaggerated. Baghdad emphasized its determination to fully implement its arms control plan, clarifying that the process would take time. Separately, Prime Minister's National Security Adviser, Qassim Al-Araji, stated yesterday, Friday, that the committee tasked with dialogue with armed factions continues its work and discussions on arms control. Al-Araji affirmed in a post that "the framework committee is continuing its efforts and discussions," adding that "matters are progressing well according to the timeline set by the Iraqi government for completing the arms restriction process."
