Arrest of currency speculator and dismantling of illegal transfer network in Diyala
The Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency announced on Wednesday the apprehension of a foreign currency speculator and the dismantling of an unauthorized financial transfer network within Diyala Governorate. Organized crime combat units in the governorate carried out a specialized operation based on precise intelligence data and continuous field tracking, resulting in the suspect being caught red-handed while engaging in dollar speculation and harming the local market. The operation led to the seizure of substantial sums in foreign and national currencies in the possession of the individual, alongside forged seals and a mobile phone containing evidence of illegal financial transfers. Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect's confession to executing unlawful money transfers for a network distributed across various locations, exploiting exchange rate differences to undermine the national economy, with statements duly ratified judicially. The agency emphasized its determination to continue intelligence operations targeting individuals tampering with economic stability and curbing unauthorized foreign currency speculation.
