Al-Qabanji Emphasizes Protecting Iraq's Interests Without Conflict with Iran or International Community

The Friday preacher in Najaf Ashraf, Sadr al-Din al-Qabanji, emphasized the importance of not sacrificing Iraq's interests by engaging in conflicts with Iran or the international community. In his sermon, he referred to the media controversy surrounding the Ja'fari Personal Status Law approved by the Iraqi Parliament, highlighting a statement by Al-Azhar's Grand Imam who described the Ja'fari school as the fifth school of thought, noting that the Dar al-Ifta sometimes refers to it in family matters to resolve issues threatening family unity. He added that this statement demonstrates the soundness and realism of the fatwas issued by the school of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). On the domestic front, al-Qabanji pointed out the continued violations of Iraqi airspace by Israeli aircraft and refueling planes, with these flights being openly visible, calling for an official stance regarding these breaches of Iraqi sovereignty. Regarding regional affairs, he noted foreign pressures urging alignment against Iran, affirming that Iran remains and Iraq should not sacrifice its interests by imposing a siege on it, nor does Iraq wish to conflict with the international community. He stressed that the recent quadrilateral meeting held in Tehran demonstrated that resolving issues can only be achieved by Iraqis themselves despite external pressures, emphasizing the need to preserve shared interests and unified identity without sacrificing them through imposing a siege on Iran or conflicting with the international community. In another part of his sermon, he described Kuwait as a friendly country linked to Iraq by unity of identity, neighborhood, and shared interests, calling for a review of the war decisions against the Ja'fari school, referring to recent death sentences issued against religious scholars.
