White House confirms Tehran retaining uranium red line

The White House spokeswoman, Anna Kelly, reaffirmed that US President Donald Trump "has made his red lines clear unequivocally." She said: "Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, and it cannot retain highly enriched uranium."

The spokeswoman also added that Trump "always reserves all options at all times, and it is the Pentagon's duty to be ready to execute any decision the Commander-in-Chief may make," according to CBS News today, Saturday.

Furthermore, she indicated that the US President "was clear about the consequences if Tehran fails to reach an agreement."

The remarks came as informed sources reported that the Trump administration was preparing for a new round of military strikes against Iran, while diplomatic efforts continue.

However, they explained that no final decision had been made regarding resuming the war until yesterday afternoon, Friday.

This came while Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir remains in Tehran, where he met yesterday evening and until late with Araghchi to discuss ways to achieve peace.

Meanwhile, Munir is also expected to meet today with Revolutionary Guard Commander Ahmad Vahidi, in an attempt to break the deadlock and overcome obstacles, according to a senior source to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath.

It is noteworthy that Tehran still adheres to not transferring highly enriched uranium abroad and demands to maintain its "control and management of the Strait of Hormuz" even after the end of the war, in addition to lifting US sanctions and the ban on its frozen assets abroad.

Meanwhile, the US position remains rejective of keeping enriched uranium inside Iran or imposing any restrictions on navigation in Hormuz, this vital corridor through which one-fifth of the world's oil and gas shipments pass.
