WhatsApp Begins Testing Innovative Feature for Offline Voice-to-Text Conversion
WhatsApp, Meta's instant messaging app, is testing an innovative feature to convert voice messages directly into written text without requiring an internet connection. This functionality is currently in beta for Android. The mechanism enables users to speak their messages, which WhatsApp then converts to text, thus removing the need to send traditional voice messages. As reported by "WABetaInfo," a specialized monitoring site, senders simply speak, and recipients instantly receive a text version, avoiding the need to listen. This feature relies on language packs downloaded locally to ensure offline conversion. First appearing in beta version 2.26.37.8, the testing phase is anticipated to last several more weeks. Following stability confirmation, it will be released to all users in a future update. WhatsApp plans to integrate a new button within the chat bar for converting and sending voice messages as text. A brief introductory screen will appear upon first use. Beyond English, support is expected for German, French, Italian, and Japanese, plus additional English versions. These language packs are downloaded locally, guaranteeing efficient offline conversion.
