US Secretary of State affirms Trump is upset over accusations regarding Kyiv

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is upset by accusations accusing him of intentionally harming Ukraine, including claims that he ordered a halt to intelligence sharing. Rubio explained during a visit to India that the president does not like being blamed for untrue matters, including accusations that he ordered the cutoff of intelligence sharing. He added that the president responds to insinuations that he is doing things to deliberately harm Ukraine, which is unfair and untrue. Rubio clarified from Mumbai that the United States is not intentionally withholding military supplies from Ukraine, pointing out that it is simply a matter of balancing commitments to other partners and, frankly, the nation's own facility needs. This comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy headed to Oslo on Tuesday to meet with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in an attempt to repair relations with Washington that have deteriorated sharply over the past two weeks, amid a growing rapprochement by President Donald Trump toward Moscow. Trump, who suspended sanctions on Russia as part of what he calls an effort to lower fuel prices in the United States, continues to issue frequent criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Kyiv says Washington has recently failed to provide early notifications regarding Russian missile launches and has restricted SpaceX satellite communications services used to guide Ukrainian drones. Trump said on Monday that, frankly, Russia has been cooperative regarding Ukraine, and Zelenskyy is not helping much in resolving things, calling on Kyiv to find someone else to negotiate. Zelenskyy stated that he spoke with Secretary of State Marco Rubio about issues including ballistic missile interception systems, early warning of Russian missile attacks, and the situation regarding Starlink and Starshield that must be restored, referring to the SpaceX satellite system. Zelenskyy said in a post on X that all of this comes amid diplomatic efforts to end this terrible war and the ongoing killing of people. Western European countries consider defending Ukraine against the Russian invasion to be an existential issue for the continent's security and have strongly backed Zelenskyy in a bid to avoid a deeper rift between Washington and Kyiv. The United States under Trump has already largely stopped supplying Ukraine with weapons but allows European countries to purchase them on Kyiv's behalf, providing intelligence and technology that Europe cannot match.
