US Envoy Tom Barak Confirms Iraqi State Sole Owner of Military Power by June 2027
US Presidential Special Envoy to Iraq, Tom Barak, announced on Tuesday an agreement to fully confine military power to the Iraqi state by the end of June 2027. Barak affirmed that official institutions will be the sole possessors of military force in the country after this period. Speaking to "Al-Monitor" after a meeting involving Rubio and Zaydi, Barak highlighted a clear agreement that the state will exclusively hold military power by late June 2027. The plan, as revealed by Zaydi, begins with a ninety-day preparatory phase. During this, factions pledge to cease attacks in return for guarantees against U.S. strikes. Subsequently, weapons will be handed over, and their existence as independent armed entities will end.
