PUK Deems Targeting of Parliament Speaker's Guesthouse a Blatant Assault on State Sovereignty
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc on Saturday condemned the drone attack on Parliament Speaker Hebat al-Halbousi's guesthouse, deeming it a blatant assault on state prestige and constitutional institutions. A statement from the bloc vehemently denounced this "cowardly terrorist attack" as a desperate and transparent attempt to destabilize national security and stability. The PUK clarified that this aggressive act targets not only the Speaker but represents a direct attack on state sovereignty and its constitutional bodies. The bloc viewed it as a malicious attempt to sow discord and stir sedition, especially when national forces are working to foster dialogue and secure constructive stability. The bloc emphasized that undermining the legislative authority's symbolism and the people's representatives directly threatens Iraq's security, sovereignty, and stability. It urged security and intelligence agencies to launch an urgent investigation to uncover the attack's circumstances, pursue perpetrators and those behind them, and bring them to swift justice. It also called on all political and national forces to unite against these subversive attempts, thereby denying opportunities to those intent on harming the nation's security and its people.
