Prime Minister Directs Inclusion of Clause in 2027 Budget for Appointing Current Contract Resident Doctors

Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidy on Saturday directed including a provision in the 2027 budget for the appointment of resident doctors currently on contract. A statement from his office reported the Prime Minister met on Saturday with representatives of contract resident physicians in Ministry of Health institutions. Ministers of Finance and Health attended the meeting, where Al-Zaidy heard a detailed briefing on their working conditions, demands, proposals, key challenges, and administrative issues related to their contractual service. Al-Zaidy emphasized, as per the statement, the significant humanitarian role of resident doctors, highlighting its importance in building public confidence in health service quality. Consequently, the Prime Minister instructed that the 2027 budget law must include a provision for appointing current contract resident doctors. His directive also covered amending and increasing their current contract salaries, ensuring the necessary financial allocation for this during the current fiscal year. Furthermore, Al-Zaidy called for a comprehensive review of legislation, laws, and regulations governing resident doctors' service. This review aims to adapt them to the nature of their work and difficulties faced, enabling them to provide optimal care to citizens within their professional and humanitarian duties.
