President Praises Factions' Decision to Make State Sole Owner of Arms

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi on Saturday commended the decisions of several armed factions that initiated cooperation to make the state the sole owner of weapons. Speaking at the Delphi Forum in Sulaymaniyah, the President affirmed that the forum succeeded in a short period in providing a vital platform for dialogue among political, economic, and intellectual leaders from around the world. He noted that its success underscores the growing international recognition of Iraq's pivotal role in building bridges of dialogue and fostering understanding between peoples and nations. Amedi pointed out that Iraq is working to develop its capabilities to become an attractive country for projects and investments, and a safe and secure region for international companies and capital. He reiterated his appreciation for the factions' steps aimed at cooperating to make weapon ownership exclusive to the state. He further stated that continuous efforts are being made to reach understandings regarding disarmament, which will enhance the country's security and stability and effectively contribute to construction and reconstruction. He emphasized that stability is no longer merely a local goal, but has become an essential prerequisite for local, regional, and global development. He noted that practical and productive dialogues are necessary to address current challenges and mitigate escalating risks, stressing that Iraq's challenges should not hinder its aspiration to promote the welfare of its people and enhance opportunities for prosperity. He mentioned that among the most prominent challenges are developing and diversifying income sources, ending the rentier system, stimulating investment, and establishing a safe and attractive environment for investors. He clarified that combating corruption and eradicating its strongholds with courage and without hesitation represents a fundamental priority in the path of reform and development. The President called for concerted efforts from the executive, legislative, and judicial authorities to confront these challenges and achieve the desired goals of development and stability, expressing his anticipation for more opportunities for peace, development, and cooperation among nations.
