Parliamentary Integrity Committee Moves to Address Major Fund Recovery Cases

The Parliamentary Integrity Committee has unveiled plans to initiate major cases for recovering illicit funds and wanted individuals, relying on robust evidence and judicial rulings. Committee member, MP Aqeel Al-Khalidi, affirmed the launch of an effective recovery policy that extends beyond prosecuting junior staff, aiming to pursue funds and identify true beneficiaries overseas. He emphasized supporting the judiciary and Integrity Commission, rejecting political interference. Al-Khalidi clarified that the success of this campaign is measured by retrieved funds, identifying five key impediments to recovery. These include accused individuals residing in nations with prohibitive conditions, challenges in documenting old banking records, and slow international legal assistance, which necessitates a specialized national five-member team. He also cited political pressures, cronyism, and the intricate task of tracking funds diverted to companies, properties, and relatives' names.
