Parliamentary Finance Committee to Host Central Bank Governor

The Finance Committee of the Council of Representatives intends to host the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq to discuss the most prominent files related to the country's monetary policy and financial stability. Adnan Awwad, head of the parliamentary committee, stated that "the committee extended an official invitation to the Central Bank Governor to attend a specialized hosting session, aimed at discussing key issues related to monetary policy and financial stability, as part of its oversight program to monitor the performance of financial institutions." Awwad clarified that "the hosting session will examine the Central Bank's directions regarding monetary policy for the upcoming years, in light of current geopolitical and economic changes. It will also address the development of the banking sector and the progress of international agreements, particularly the 'Oliver Wyman' project, and its implications for supporting monetary and financial stability and the national economy." He added that "the committee will also discuss the Central Bank's final accounts for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, and ascertain their contribution to achieving financial and economic sustainability and enhancing the country's monetary reserves." Awwad affirmed that "the Finance Committee is committed to activating its oversight role through hosting executive officials and monitoring the performance of economic and financial institutions. This contributes to strengthening coordination between the legislative and executive authorities, supporting financial stability, and protecting the national economy."
