Parliamentary Calls Intensify for Resolving Security Ministries, Completing Cabinet

Completing the cabinet formation represents a crucial step towards enhancing political stability and improving governmental performance, amidst ongoing calls to prioritize competence in ministerial selections and resolve vacant portfolios, especially security-related ones, in line with Iraq's current challenges and citizens' aspirations. In this context, Mohammed Al-Hasnawi, a member of the Huqooq Parliamentary Movement, affirmed in a press statement that "the failure to vote on security ministries constitutes a matter of extreme importance and gravity given the challenges the country faces in the region," emphasizing that "it was imperative to settle the security portfolios first, due to their sensitive nature, before proceeding with voting on the remaining ministries." Al-Hasnawi indicated that "the movement's stance on these procedures was clear," expressing hope that "political blocs would work, following the legislative recess, to complete the first legislative session, leading to the formation of a full government capable of delivering services and meeting citizens' hopes." For his part, Abdul Hamza Al-Khafaji, head of the Idrak Parliamentary Bloc, stressed that "the complete formation of the government is extremely important, but more crucial is selecting individuals possessing professionalism and competence, while avoiding unqualified candidates, which will contribute to ending the traditional routine that ministries have suffered from in previous periods." He added that "the government must be built on a foundation of competence and integrity to enable it to address service, health, and educational challenges and improve the overall situation at various levels." Al-Khafaji pointed to "the necessity for the Prime Minister's office to offer realistic solutions to crises," asserting that "any government seeking to complete its ministerial cabinet should possess a clear economic vision based on diversifying income sources and boosting revenues, thereby contributing to addressing the financial crisis." He underlined "the importance of the Prime Minister establishing clear mechanisms for holding negligent ministers accountable within specific timeframes, along with submitting periodic reports to the Council of Representatives, allowing parliament to exercise its oversight role, up to withdrawing confidence when necessary, in addition to the imperative of selecting efficient individuals capable of managing ministries with effectiveness and capability."
