Parliament Confirms Radically Different Legislative Agenda for New Session

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, announced that the parliamentary agenda for the upcoming legislative session will mark a radical departure from previous sessions. Al-Dulaimi clarified that the presidency of the Parliament and its members have placed anti-corruption efforts at the forefront of their oversight priorities, alongside activating the role of specialized parliamentary committees in monitoring the work of supervisory bodies. Officials stated that the anticipated legislative session will witness a qualitative shift in legislative and oversight performance. The session agendas are set to include dedicated hearing sessions to discuss the performance of ministries, bodies, and supervisory institutions, as well as reviewing their programs and future development plans. This step aims to establish these discussions as a primary criterion for monitoring and evaluation. According to statements made by Al-Dulaimi, combating corruption and empowering parliamentary committees to oversee supervisory bodies and provide necessary support is a national demand and entitlement that tolerates no delay or leniency. He emphasized that this ensures the protection of public funds and accountability for all involved without exception. Al-Dulaimi affirmed that confronting corruption requires real and tangible actions on the ground, rather than merely relying on slogans and statements, most of which he described as having served as a cover and cause for the spread of corruption. He stressed that Parliament will not allow any corrupt individual to escape accountability, regardless of their position or affiliation. These efforts aim to recover embezzled funds and establish the rule of law, thereby enhancing citizens' trust in state institutions and confirming that the fight against corruption has become a practical choice, not merely a slogan.
