Ministerial Directive to Facilitate Issuance of Iraqi Passports in Washington
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has issued a directive emphasizing the necessity of regularly organizing the processing of applications for issuing and renewing Iraqi passports in the US capital, Washington. This directive, issued on Tuesday, aims to streamline consular procedures and provide optimal services to Iraqi citizens residing in the eastern states of the United States, thereby reducing the burden of their visits to consular institutions. This development occurred during a visit made by Minister Hussein on Monday to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, where he inspected the embassy building and the consular section. During his meeting with the embassy staff, the Minister reviewed the progress of work and the efforts being made to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, as well as following up on files of mutual interest. The Minister underscored the importance of elevating diplomatic performance to align with the Iraqi government's directions and the Foreign Ministry's priorities in implementing an open foreign policy. This policy is founded on mutual respect and common interests, contributing to the development of bilateral relations and expanding cooperation prospects across various fields. Hussein also reviewed the economic challenges facing Iraq and the wider region, in light of the repercussions of wars and their impact on economic and commercial conditions, especially given the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its effects on trade movement and energy supplies. In his follow-up on consular affairs, the Minister examined the work procedures and the level of services provided to Iraqi citizens. He stressed the importance of continuously developing consular performance, updating work mechanisms, and finding appropriate solutions to facilitate the completion of citizens' transactions and meet their needs, in addition to enhancing communication with them and addressing their concerns.
