Microsoft Halts Production of Two Key Surface Devices

Microsoft has officially announced the discontinuation of production for its Surface Go 4 tablet and Surface Laptop Go 3 notebook. A specialized tech website indicates that the company has no plans to restock or re-release these two device types in its official stores, signaling a departure from the affordable computing category within its product lineup. The company is now focusing its efforts on higher-priced devices, such as the Surface Pro series, available with 12 and 13-inch displays, and the Surface Laptop series, offered in 13, 13.8, and 15-inch sizes. Microsoft is also reportedly developing a new premium model named Surface Laptop Ultra. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the company had considered launching a Surface Go 5 powered by an economical Qualcomm processor. However, this project was canceled due to a lack of interest from institutional and corporate customers in this type of processor. This presents a significant hurdle, especially since the Surface Go 4 was primarily marketed as a commercial device. To bridge this market gap, Microsoft recently introduced lower-priced versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop devices. These models come with 8GB of RAM and are priced starting from $849 and $949, respectively. Concurrently, Microsoft has begun promoting the Dell XPS 13 as a strong competitor to Apple's MacBook Neo. This device boasts additional features such as Windows Hello facial recognition technology, a touchscreen display, and a backlit keyboard. The basic specifications for its entry-level version include an Intel Core 5 320 processor, 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 512GB SSD, and it weighs approximately 1 kilogram.
