Masrour Barzani Affirms Support for Baghdad's Anti-Corruption Efforts, Highlights Economic Crisis and Regional Challenges
Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, today affirmed the region's full support for the federal government's anti-corruption measures led by Ali Al-Zaidi. Barzani highlighted Iraq's severe economic crisis stemming from current regional developments and crises. During a press conference, Barzani clarified that the Kurdistan Region maintains neutrality regarding regional conflicts and unrest, emphasizing its firm stance supporting peaceful, diplomatic solutions to end all tensions. He added that these tensions persist, causing concern for all parties, and expressed gratitude to the region's people for enduring their repercussions. Barzani pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz closure contributed to an economic crisis in the region, affirming the KRG's readiness to cooperate with the Iraqi government for suitable solutions. Regarding federal government relations, Barzani stated Kurdistan fulfilled its obligations to Baghdad concerning salaries. He explained that current regional conditions led to a decline in KRG local revenues, calling for a review of the 120 billion dinar payment decision. On the internal political front, Barzani urged Kurdish parties and forces to activate the regional parliament and proceed with forming a new government. In the energy sector, Barzani affirmed the KRG's commitment to securing 24-hour electricity for citizens, noting the "Ronaki" project is progressing well. He explained that Dana Gas operations halting at Khor Mor led to reduced gas production and electricity supply, emphasizing efforts to increase production soon. He also indicated the KRG requested the federal government to increase Kurdistan's share of oil derivatives and fuel, clarifying the allocation of 50,000 barrels of crude oil daily for local needs, and demanding the provision of the remaining 70,000 barrels as an official share. Barzani confirmed he directed the Ministry of Natural Resources to review and adjust gasoline prices and find appropriate solutions for the fuel crisis.
