Masrour Barzani Affirms No Relations Between Region and Israel
Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), affirmed Saturday that no relations exist between the region and Israel. Barzani clarified the KRG supports the Iraqi government in restricting weapons to official forces, emphasizing its disinterest in engaging in regional conflicts. He added that the KRG faced no pressure to join wars, asserting its goal: protect Kurdistan and maintain stability away from disputes. Barzani revealed the Kurdistan Region endured over a thousand rocket and drone attacks, noting these originated either directly from Iran or by "some militias" from within Iraq. Regarding Israel, Barzani stated: "We have no relations with Israel; foreign policy is the federal government's prerogative." He also indicated no American troops have been at Harir Air Base for ten years. On regional relations, the Prime Minister affirmed KRG ties with Damascus are good and developing, describing those with Turkey as "very good" and cooperative.
