Kim Kardashian's Esophagitis Diagnosis Raises Family Concerns
The recent diagnosis of American reality TV star Kim Kardashian with esophagitis has sparked family concerns. This worry stems from its link to the same organ affected by her late father's esophageal cancer, which led to his death at 59. Kardashian, 45, revealed her health status in "The Kardashians" season eight teaser. She appeared in a hospital bed, asked if her father died from the same illness. Her mother, Kris Jenner, seemed deeply emotional, struggling to hold back tears. Robert Kardashian passed away in 2003 at 59 after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Experts clarify esophagitis itself doesn't automatically mean cancer, and progression to malignancy remains low. According to the Cleveland Clinic, esophagitis affects the muscular tube carrying food from mouth to stomach. Symptoms include heartburn, difficulty/pain swallowing, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and a feeling of something stuck. Severe cases may cause bleeding. Primary causes include gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where stomach acids repeatedly flow back. It can also result from certain medications (aspirin, iron supplements, NSAIDs) or infections, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Chronic esophagitis may lead to complications like Barrett's esophagus, from repeated esophageal lining exposure to stomach acids. This increases esophageal cancer risk, but it remains low. Doctors might recommend regular screenings for early changes. Recovery is possible by identifying and treating the cause with medications reducing reflux, inflammation, or infection, and avoiding foods/beverages exacerbating acid reflux. This revelation follows approximately a year after Kardashian announced a small brain aneurysm discovery during an MRI, which doctors linked to stress. She reassured followers then that her condition was stable.
