Iraqi Parliamentary Bloc Warns of US Restrictions on Iranian Aviation Impacting National Economic Interests
The Parliamentary Bloc for Construction and Development warned on Saturday of the repercussions from American restrictions on Iranian aviation, highlighting their potential negative impact on Iraq's economic interests. The bloc voiced deep concern over US sanctions on Iranian airlines and subsequent service limitations. It noted these measures could further complicate the regional landscape, particularly when de-escalation and dialogue are urgently needed. Furthermore, the bloc cautioned against the impact of these restrictions on Iraqi economic sectors tied to travel and religious visits. Such measures might hinder visitor movement between Iraq and Iran and increase burdens on travelers. It underscored the need to resolve American-Iranian disputes diplomatically, shielding civilians from their fallout, and avoiding additional burdens on the Iranian populace, which has endured economic sanctions for years. The bloc urged the Iraqi government to engage in direct, clear dialogue with the US via diplomatic and technical channels. This is to seek exemptions or licenses protecting Iraq's interests, easing travel and religious visits, and safeguarding Iraqi institutions from sanctions.
