Iraqi Parliament Speaker: We Informed Iranian Counterpart of Iraq's Demands to Facilitate Oil Exports via Hormuz Strait
The Iraqi Parliament Speaker confirmed informing his Iranian counterpart of Iraq's demands to facilitate oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that a message of censure was conveyed to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf regarding the denial of Iraqi oil passage through this vital maritime route. The Iranian side, he added, promised to discuss with its top leadership the possibility of exempting Iraq. Domestically, the Parliament Speaker noted "the government's performance cannot be fully assessed within one hundred days, especially with an incomplete cabinet." Yet, he observed "a glimmer of hope in its work." He affirmed his regular meetings with the Prime Minister (Ali Faleh al-Zaidi) aim to support the government's agenda, stressing coordination between executive and legislative branches. Regionally, he emphasized Iraq's respect for neighbors, demanding reciprocal respect for its sovereignty; his stance on the Gulf's naming reflects state policy. Regarding weapon control, he clarified that "confining weapons to the state is a constitutional mandate, not requiring a separate law." He highlighted "the end of need for factions that previously played a role, as weapons outside state control now cause embarrassment." He denied any "clash with these factions," asserting "the end of next September marks the start of state-exclusive weapon control." On the international coalition, he noted "its reduced presence and complete handover of all its bases to Iraqi security agencies." Concerning salaries, he announced "next week will see the first reading of the borrowing law, with the budget expected in October, ensuring salary continuity." For anti-corruption, he explained "lifting immunity falls within the Speaker's powers during legislative recess, with no parliamentary objections to anti-corruption efforts." He concluded by stating "a security committee will be formed to vet names of all displaced persons from Jurf al-Nasr area."
