Iraqi and Iranian Presidents Affirm Need to End Wars, Bolster Regional Stability
President Nizar Amedy and his Iranian counterpart, Massoud Pezeshkian, on Friday affirmed the necessity of ending wars and halting crises and tensions in the region. This came during President Amedy's meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran, with President Pezeshkian. During the encounter, President Amedy extended the condolences and sympathy of the Iraqi people to the Iranian people over the martyrdom of Sayyed Ali Khamenei and a number of leaders, officials, and citizens. In turn, President Pezeshkian congratulated President Amedy on his election as President of the Republic of Iraq, expressing gratitude for his presence at the funeral ceremony. President Amedy emphasized the deep historical, social, and cultural ties between Iraq and Iran, stressing the importance of joint efforts to strengthen and develop these relations across various fields. This cooperation, he noted, serves the interests of the two friendly peoples and contributes to regional stability. The two presidents reiterated the importance of working to end conflicts and de-escalate regional crises and tensions through dialogue and diplomacy. They called for adopting peaceful solutions that bolster regional security and support the aspirations of the region's peoples for stability and development. For his part, President Pezeshkian expressed Iran's appreciation for the Iraqi people and their noble sentiments during times of hardship, affirming the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations in all sectors to achieve the common interests of the two friendly nations.
