Iraq, Kuwait Ink Deal to Combat Fake News and Hate Speech
Sabah Al-Nu'man, the official spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, announced on Saturday an Iraqi-Kuwaiti agreement to combat media disinformation networks. He confirmed the adoption of a specialized mechanism for monitoring hate speech. Al-Nu'man clarified that this joint strategic agreement is the culmination of extensive discussions by the official Iraqi delegation in Kuwait. It aims to halt the production of fake news and the spread of lies targeting citizens' awareness in both fraternal countries. Al-Nu'man indicated that meetings with the Kuwaiti Interior and Defense Ministries identified the seriousness of psychological warfare, manifested in the production and dissemination of misleading content and fabricated reports, used by suspicious parties to disturb strong fraternal relations. Both sides adopted a direct monitoring mechanism for immediate handling of any false narratives or incitement, aiming to accurately sift facts and thwart attempts to distort reality. This crucial coordination aims to thwart attempts to guide public opinion through fictitious data. It also seeks to establish a joint platform of high credibility and professionalism to dry up disinformation sources, thereby fortifying the common social fabric and enhancing the security and moral stability of both fraternal countries and peoples.
