Government Announces Launch of New Phase of Legally Guaranteed National Sovereignty
Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi confirmed, during the Sovereignty Day conference in Baghdad on Thursday, the official launch of the sovereignty phase protected by the state and guaranteed by the law, explaining that sovereignty embodies the people's decision and insistence on establishing the state's existence and imposing its prestige. He pointed out that Iraq has become a country where the pillars of political, economic, and security sovereignty are taking root, with the authority of law being applied across its entire geography and resources managed by the hands of the nation's citizens based on the constitution. He stressed that the concept of sovereignty represents the core meaning of the inclusive national identity, recalling that Iraqis approved their permanent constitution two decades ago amidst extremely difficult circumstances and terrorist challenges that allied with the remnants of dictatorship and forces of ruin. He noted that the people have passed various complex tests leading up to the current stage, where they renew their determination to protect state institutions and its ruling system, as well as blocking the path for those who exploit public interest for personal gains. He clarified that the government apparatus confronted the scourge of corruption and considered these efforts a fundamental pillar for protecting sovereignty and warding off hands tampering with public funds. Al-Zaidi appreciated the stances of the factions that expressed commitment to organizing the weapons file in accordance with the constitution and the government's timetable, anticipating that the other parties will adopt the same position in support of the people's interests and to enhance the state's prestige and authority.
