French President Unveils Plan for Oil, Gas Pipeline Connecting Iraq to Europe

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that efforts are underway to establish a pipeline for transporting gas and oil from Iraq to the European market, in joint coordination with Jordan and Iraq. Macron explained that the conflict in the Middle East is exacerbating the energy crisis, increasing citizens' suffering due to rising fuel prices. He stressed that this crisis is not limited to France but encompasses the entire European continent. He added that France, although not a party to the conflict that closed the Strait of Hormuz, is experiencing its repercussions, calling for a diplomatic solution to reopen it. He noted that his country participated in an international mission to escort oil tankers through the strait and will accelerate European gas storage projects to alleviate price burdens and provide alternatives.
