Factions Request Homam Hamoudi Join Arms Mediation Committee

Iraqi political factions have requested the inclusion of Homam Hamoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Council, in the mediation committee formed by the Coordination Framework, tasked with addressing the issue of arms restriction. Ali al-Defa'i, the Council's spokesperson, clarified that this request aims to involve Hamoudi in the committee responsible for negotiations between the factions and Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi concerning this sensitive dossier. Al-Defa'i noted that the Supreme Council was not represented in the committee when it was initially formed. However, the factions' insistence led to the call for Hamoudi's participation, confirming that meetings between the concerned parties have been ongoing since the committee's establishment. He further indicated that Homam Hamoudi has already conducted direct visits and meetings with prominent faction leaders to discuss the arms file. These dialogues, he affirmed, revealed the factions' understanding of the principle of arms control, provided it is linked to achieving full Iraqi sovereignty. The spokesperson emphasized that addressing this file will not lead to armed confrontation or bloodshed, clarifying that all relevant forces have unanimously agreed to avoid any military clash.
