Al-Maliki warns against exploiting exchange rate file to stir public concern
Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, called on Sunday against using the exchange rate measure as a pretext to stir concern and disrupt the atmosphere in the country. Al-Maliki explained in a post that experts and those concerned with the local economic affair are divided between supporters and opponents of the decision to raise the US dollar exchange rate, out of keenness on the citizens purchasing power and living standards, indicating that measures to amend the national currency exchange rate are usually adopted in some countries facing economic crises, but their success remains closely linked to the governments ability to address their negative effects, protect citizens incomes, and limit their direct reflections on markets. He added that the government is in the process of taking clear measures and mechanisms that ensure preserving citizens incomes and purchasing power, alongside market stability and the continuation of economic activities, so as not to burden the citizen with the costs of these treatments, renewing his call not to exploit this measure as a pretext to stir concern or disrupt the political and economic atmosphere. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of expediting the announcement of solutions and measures capable of protecting the individual income and living standard, in a way that preserves citizens interests and enhances comprehensive economic and financial stability.
