Al-Halbousi stresses the necessity of state weapons monopoly for full sovereignty
The leader of the Progress Party, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, stressed on Wednesday that completing national sovereignty requires moving forward with restricting arms to the official state institutions and monopolizing the decision of war and peace. In an official statement, Al-Halbousi congratulated the Iraqi people on Sovereignty Day, praising the government's steps and the efforts of state institutions aimed at consolidating security and stability, as well as supporting independent national decision-making. He also appreciated the efforts and support provided by the international coalition forces to Iraq during the years of the war against terrorism. He pointed out that reaching full sovereignty requires continued efforts to place weapons under state authority and strengthen the prestige of constitutional institutions to protect the country's security and stability. He expressed hope that this occasion would represent a starting point for a new phase in which stability is enhanced, allowing Iraq to play its role effectively based on its interests, sovereignty, and independent decision.
