Al-Emar wal-Tanmiya Bloc Supports Federal Oversight Bill, Urges Parliament to Vote
The Al-Emar wal-Tanmiya parliamentary bloc announced its full adoption of the Federal Internal Oversight Commission Draft Law, submitted by the government. The bloc affirmed its crucial role in addressing legislative and oversight gaps within the anti-corruption system and safeguarding public funds. Bahaa Al-Araji, head of the bloc, stated at a Parliament press conference that combating corruption necessitates specific legislation for the critical current phase. He noted this draft was previously presented to the government but not approved. The current government later adopted and approved it in the Council of Ministers due to its vital importance. Al-Araji explained the law's significance centers on three key dimensions: First, it enables proactive and immediate oversight of contracts and procedures before and after signing. Second, the proposed commission directly reports to the Prime Minister's office, ensuring prompt, effective decision-making. Third, it fills the administrative and oversight void from the previous Parliament's abolition of general inspector offices, serving as a complementary coordinating link with the Financial Supervision Bureau. He added the law's federal nature extends its oversight authority to include the Kurdistan Region. Al-Araji also predicted political opposition in Parliament from blocs that previously opposed it during Council of Ministers discussions. Concluding the conference, the Al-Emar wal-Tanmiya parliamentary bloc urged the Parliament Speaker's office to schedule the draft law for upcoming sessions. It further called upon all political blocs to vote for its swift passage, deeming it a decisive measure to prevent public money wastage and expose corruption.
