2027 Budget Expected to Reach Parliament with Possible Legislative Term Extension
Two members of parliament have indicated the possibility of extending the legislative term by an additional month. MP Mohammed Abu Al-Eis stated that the draft budget is currently with the Prime Minister for review and verification, expecting it to be sent to parliament and the financial committee next week. He added that there is pressure from MPs to proceed with preparing the budget and that they will coordinate with the Minister of Finance to learn about the latest developments and inform the public. Meanwhile, MP Riyadh Addai noted that the budget project is expected to reach parliament in November, pointing to a trend to extend the legislative term by one month, from its original end at the beginning of November to December, to allow time for discussion. He described the arrival of the budget before the end of the year as an unprecedented step and estimated its deficit at about 46 trillion dinars. Addai explained that the budget is shifting from an itemized approach to a program and performance-based budget, linking spending to programs and execution rather than focusing solely on allocations and paper projects. He added that this approach will be piloted in two ministries and two provinces as a prelude to evaluating the experience.
