Widespread Protests and Road Closures Across Syrian Regions Over Fuel Price Hikes

Widespread popular protests, involving road closures, have erupted across the Syrian governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah, following a recent increase in fuel prices. Demonstrators, gathering in several areas, called for price reductions and measures to ease the economic burdens on citizens. The Syrian Jazeera region saw multiple roads blocked and oil tanker movement restricted. Various locations witnessed protest gatherings where participants unequivocally rejected the new fuel price hikes. In the Raqqa countryside, protesters blocked the Deir ez-Zor–Aleppo International Road near Huweija Shanan with burning tires, decrying the high cost of fuel. The Al-Karama area also experienced road closures and prevented oil tankers from passing. Similar actions were recorded in Deir ez-Zor, including the blocking of main roads. Protesters there raised demands for fuel price adjustments to match the challenging economic and living conditions faced by residents.
