Washington: Agreed with China to prevent Iran from owning nuclear weapon

A White House official said that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping "was good" and discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation, according to Reuters news agency. The official announced that the United States and China also agreed that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, and stressed the necessity of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement following the historic and decisive meeting between the US and Chinese presidents, pointing out the necessity of building "stable and strategic" relations with Washington within the framework of managing differences and enhancing communication channels between the two sides. It added that the Chinese and US presidents exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues during their recent talks. The ministry explained that the Taiwan issue remains the "most important determinant" in Chinese-American relations, emphasizing that Beijing's position rejecting US arms sales to Taiwan is "firm and unchangeable."
