US Forces Target Ship Attempting to Breach Naval Blockade on Iran

US forces fired upon a Panama-flagged vessel early Tuesday, after it attempted to breach a blockade imposed on Iranian ports. This action aligns with Washington's efforts to tighten enforcement and exert economic pressure on Tehran. Sources indicated a US military helicopter targeted the ship's rudder, firing upon it after the crew ignored warnings from American personnel enforcing the naval blockade. The incident, occurring just before dawn Tuesday, yielded no immediate reports of casualties. The official noted the vessel later appeared to attempt transferring its crew to another civilian ship post-attack. Vanguard Maritime Security reported earlier today that the Panama-flagged container ship "Vila Nova" was hit by a helicopter-launched missile. The strike occurred while the ship sailed westbound through the Gulf of Oman, about 71 nautical miles off Pakistan's coast. Vanguard's initial report stated the missile caused a fire onboard, subsequently extinguished, confirming all 17 crew members were safe. Three Indian sailors were killed last June during a prior US operation enforcing the Iran blockade, an Indian official confirmed. This marked the first reported deaths from Washington's drive to deny Iran oil revenues (petrodollars) and force a peace agreement.
