Trump Warns France Is Burning Urging Closed Borders Amid Widespread Unrest

Former US President Donald Trump urged French authorities to immediately close their borders and regain control, warning of the severe repercussions of immigration in comments made Sunday regarding the widespread unrest currently gripping France. Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump declared that France is burning, arguing that the influx of individuals originating from an entirely different world and carrying hatred in their hearts has contributed to destroying a country that was once great. His statement linked migration directly to the ongoing domestic turmoil, though it offered no additional details regarding the specific developments referenced. These remarks come as France grapples with extensive riots, looting, and vandalism following massive demonstrations in which hundreds of thousands took to the streets to protest surging living costs and deteriorating purchasing power. Those rallies escalated into violent clashes with security forces, resulting in heavy material damage to commercial shops, public facilities, and historic landmarks. French authorities are currently working to tally the scale of destruction, with the government pledging decisive measures against rioters amid soaring social tension and political pressures ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced the arrest of 1,200 individuals linked to Saturday's nationwide demonstrations, noting that around 150 police officers were injured in the confrontations. Speaking while inspecting police units deployed in central Paris, Lecornu noted that the casualty figure could easily have been higher, insisting that the administration will never yield to intimidation or permit the imposition of political agendas through force. The Prime Minister accused far-left factions and lawless elements of orchestrating the unrest, warning against attempts to exploit violence for partisan advantages. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron pledged rigorous prosecution for those engaged in destruction, attacks against institutions and businesses, and commercial looting. Violence swept through numerous major urban centers, including Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lyon, and Limoges. In central Limoges, a massive blaze tore through the historic nineteenth-century town hall, causing portions of the building to collapse and inflicting severe structural devastation.
